Movies:

Thursday through Sunday at BAM: You Will Meet a Tall, Dark Stranger, Hereafter, The Social Network

On October 31, at BAM Cinematek: Seven Samurai: “Seven reasons to see Seven Samurai: 1. It’s Kurosawa’s ultimate masterpiece, a stunning mix of samurai films and westerns. 2. This epic film is barely big enough to contain Mifune’s performance, from his sniggering physicality to his final emotional breakdown. 3. The superb supporting cast is a who’s-who of legendary Japanese character actors. 4. It has influenced virtually every action film made thereafter, right down to its use of slow-motion. 5. The shimmering cinematography and operatic score create an almost mythical setting. 6. Did we mention how good Mifune is? God, he’s amazing. 7. If you haven’t seen it on the big screen, then you haven’t really seen it.”

Music

On Saturday night at 9:30 at the Jewish Music Cafe: Pey Dalid performs a unique blend of Roots, Rock, Reggae and many other popular genres into a unique mix of worldly sounds. Their upbeat and funky melodies are sung both in English and Hebrew. While you’re there have a He’Brew beer a slice of Mrs. Selter’s cheese cake or a Kosher cappucino. Fun.

At Union Hall on Halloween an after hours Zombie extravaganza with zombie reincarnated versions of Heathers, Veronicas, J.D.s, Kurts, Rams, and even Martha Dumptrucks are all welcome (BYO BQ Corn Nuts) to this after-hours Halloween extravaganza. Just like one of those legendary parties at Remington, complete with 80s music by chart-toppers “Big Fun” and more brought to you by DJ I Rock I Roll.

Halloween Activities in Park Slope:

This year the Park Slope Halloween Parade is scheduled for Sunday, October 31.  The parade kicks off at 14th Street at 6:30 pm, and will probably begin turning onto Third Street around 7 pm. The finale will take place on the turf field on the 4th avenue side of the Old Stone House, and we’re trying to encourage people not to park on the block of Third Street between 5th and 4th Avenues, since that’s where the parade will enter the park. At the end of the Parade there will be music from Paprika and a steel band – long-time parade participants – and the post-parade party will end by 10 pm.

Prior to the parade, a costume contest will take place on 7th avenue in front of the John Jay High School Building at 4 pm. For more information on the parade details, visit the Park Slope Civic Council website.

At Sheep Station on Halloween: A Mad Men inspired Halloween party and costume contest to benefit Women for Women. Start time 7.30 pm /costume registration ends at 9pm/ contest at 10:pm.
