Politician Responds to Goose Slaughter

New York State Senator Eric Adams will join  residents and animal activists in Prospect Park at tonight’s vigil in Prospect Park at 6:30PM at the gazebo on Prospect Park lake (near the entrance at Prospect Park Southwest and Vanderbilt Street in Prospect Park)  condemning the gassing death of over 250 Canadian geese in Prospect Park on July 8. I am sure he is not the only politician who will be on hand Saturday night. In a press release, Adams suggests that citizens write their federal representatives if they are outraged about the slaughter…

NYS State Senator Adams writes: “ I was dismayed by the manner in which these majestic creatures were slaughtered. I am upset further by the absence of any notice to residents; I am aware that numerous individuals visit the park to watch and feed the geese, and that many were alarmed by the absence of these beautiful birds.

“I am convinced that a more humane method might have been used to control the goose population. The operation was conducted under the auspices of the United States Department of Agriculture, and I would urge any individual who was distressed to write both to them and to his/her federal representatives (Senators Schumer and Gillibrand and Congressperson Yvette Clarke). The geese were removed as a result of the “danger posed to civil aviation,” and a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration would also be appropriate.

“I will be attending this vigil to further underscore my unhappiness with how this situation was handled. Our animal population must not die needlessly, and inhumanely, to suit the needs of humans.”

  3. I’m so glad he’s going to be there. We need some real answers about how and why this happened, and we won’t get them without some political muscle behind us.
