All three candidates for the City Council in the 39th district are public school parents. However, the current CFB Voter Guide, delivered to households this past week, misprinted information and said that  Brad Lander was the only public school parent of the bunch.

That was accurate of the candidates for the Democratic primary but not accurate of the three now facing the general election. In other words: Pechefsky (Green), Brad Lander (Democratic) and Nardiello (Republican) have kids in public school.

They will hold a press conference on Monday, October 19th at noon in JJ Byrne Park (3rd Street and Fifth Avenue) to set the record straight.

To dramatize the fact. all three candidates will take a standardized test while sitting in school desks. It should be quite a sight. The event is just one block from MS 51.

  1. Nothing happens by accident — especially surrounding rehearsed & prepared candidates. Lander specifically, received the Working Families endorsement from April which demonstrates the connection to sitting Councilman Bill DeBlasio and the WFP advantage for operations over the other Dem. runners up. This was reported on by the Brooklyn Paper in August, due only to Josh Skaller’s reaction and concern over fairness. The Lander public school piece can be summed as ‘good strategy’ in an arena that does NOT REQUIRE THE TRUTH (three months before submission to the Campaign Finance Board’s guide, in mid-June). So, 80,000 mailings go out with the wrong information — and this would NOT have been the case, had it been Joe Nardiello who’d taken the tact to exploit where my children are educated (remember, I’d suspected that my primary opponent lived in Nassau County). To me, families are not running – and shouldn’t have been a focus. Now, because my daughter is.. I released her abilities to play the piano, which she learned after school AT her Public School.
It’s up to the candidates to expose this, and alert the media… who then seems to go ‘back to sleep’ over issues of trust — one namely, who placed the ‘Der Blaat’ advertorial vs. the ongoing investigation, etc. etc. of September? It’s nearly November, and OJ Simpson’s doing a better job at finding the ‘real culprit’.

  2. Just for the record. The CFB did not “misprint” anything. They simply reprinted what Brad Lander had submitted for the primrary. They don’t give candidates a chance to go back and change what they’ve submitted. It’s another example of how the electoral system in NYC is oriented towards the primary (and therefore effectively the Democratic primary) with the general election being an afterthought.
