Recession Watch: Tempo Restaurant Closing

Tempo1_107 I am sad to report that Tempo, an extremely attractive Fifth Avenue Zagat-rated restaurant with excellent food, is closing.

The menu at Tempo was inspired by the cuisines of Spain, Southern France, Sicily, Sardinia, coastal Italy and North Africa.

A large upscale restaurant in the space previously occupied and originally designed by Cucina, it is a popular destination for special occasion dinners and events like bar mitzvah parties and weddings.

I am guessing that they fell victim to the economic downturn with its upscale menu and vibe. Their lower priced offspring Tempo Presto is right next door. I am also wondering if Tempo Presto is closing, too.

  1. Was sad to see Tempo close, our favorite neighborhood restaurant. Does anyone know if they plan on openning another restaurant?

  2. I’m very sad that Tempo closed. It was my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn, and my family and I went there every year for Thanksgiving. I went there dozens of times, and you couldn’t ask for better food or service. I hope they are able to open another restaurant somewhere in Park Slope.

  3. I am very sad about this; it was one of the most comfortable places in the neighborhood with good food, reasonable prices and very nice owners.
    What a shame!

  4. Tempo had delicious food with reasonable prices for this area. We’re sad to see it go. But this is particularly bad news for us—we booked it for our fall wedding. Any other ideas for dinner for 100 people?

  5. I am not happy about this; I knew people who loved Tempo. My husband & I tried it once and did like the food. As Chandru mentioned, however, there was something quite pretentious about the place. I was put off by their theatrical way of pouring olive oil into bread dipping dishes at the table, their up-selling and their hovering over my husband while he perused the wine list. My husband knows his stuff and took his time reading it and considering what would pair best with our meals. They would not let us be though. They were over-eager in making *suggestions*. This was all after they wrestled our coats away from us! I did not want to check my coat but was told, very sternly, that I must.
We had no desire to return but really not a problem. We adore Al Di La. I am sorry that a neighborhood restaurant that was liked by many is closing its doors.

  6. I’m wondering how it’s possible Tempo Presto could be closing, considering it closed several months ago.
All jokes aside, if this is true, then this is very sad. One of the best spots in the ‘hood.

  7. Tempo Presto is already closed. I’m incredibly sad to hear this news…by far, my favorite restaurant in the slope.

  8. Much as I liked the food and the ambiance, I found it overpriced (especially the wines) and very pretentious. The time I was told to not hang my winter coat on the back of the chair (“for everyone’s safety” or some such nonsense) did it for me. However, their prix fixe was a decent deal.

  9. Tempo Presto closed months ago. Too bad about Tempo. It was the restaurant I most wanted to go to but didn’t. It will be missed in theory.

  10. Tempo Presto closed in February (the one on 5th, the one on 7th closed last year).
