The Oh So Prolific One: Leon Freilich, Verse Responder

Racklock! When’s the last time you didn’t bash into a snarl of newsracks on Seventh Avenue? And snarkers gripe about Slope strollers. The situation’s even worse in the borough across the river, leading the Municipal Art Society to create a short documentary it calls “Outrage.” It’s now a YouTuber:

And it starts–in hard-to-read white writing–with this:

RACKS & RUINS

I think that I shall never see

A corner that is clutter-free,

Especially now that newspaper boxes

Proliferate on all our blockses.

  1. Amen to this poem. We live close to the corner of 9th street and 5th Ave where there are more of these newspaper holders per square inch than any other place in Park Slope. We have made calls and corresponded with all the appropriate agencies to at least request the reduction of these boxes that are on 2 of the possible 4 corners. We have been told that since they sit on places within the legal footage away from the crosswalk that they are legal. Remember that little poem “March winds bring April Showers?” March winds ( or any wind any time) sends these newspapers that have been removed from the bins snd thrown on the street.. airborne.
