WHAT’S THE STORY WITH THIS PLACE?

So what’s the deal with this place. Us store- front renovation watchers want to know.

Is it really going to be a hot dog restaurant, as I heard last year. Is the renovation still going on? What’s the story here. Anyone know? It’s on Fifth Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets across from MS 51.

  1. In case you don’t already know. Willy’s Dawgs did indeed open about a month ago. The hot dogs are great. It’s been packed every time I’ve been there. I don’t know if they started their daily hot dog specials yet but they were going to have a different specialty hot dog every day. Monday was wursts and Wednesday was Kobe Beef (YUM!).

  2. That used to be Manny’s Pizza right across from MS 51 (I lived right above it for two years). Since Manny’s closed in the fall of 2005, it’s been under intermittent renovation for more than a year. When I moved out at the end of August of this year, I spoke with who I thought was the owner (he was painting dancing hot dog montage on the wall), and he said the place is going to be called “Willy’s Dogs,” and seemed to indicate that it would be open soon. That was almost three months ago.

  3. not sure what it’s going to be, but the inside walls are all painted with dancing hot-dogs, so the hot-dog restaurant idea is probably a safe bet.
