NEW RESTAURANT IN DITMAS PARK

Farminterior3
There’s a new restaurant in Ditmas Park (actually it’s been there since the summer) and Brooklyn Papers says that it’s darn good, just what the neighborhood needed. It’s called THE FARM ON ADDERLY here’s what wwners, Gary Jonas and Allison McDowell, have to say about the name — OTBKB

The Farm on Adderley comes from an expression that Gary’s family used when something was a long shot. They would say, "If that ever happens, I’ll buy you a Farm on Adderley." Adderley is a busy, commercial street in Cape Town, South Africa where having a farm is impossible. For Gary, this restaurant has always been a dream, something he never thought would happen…but finally its here "The Farm on Adderley"

By drawing ingredients from local and sustainable sources, The Farm on Adderely is bringing back "the farm" to Ditmas Park, Brooklyn, which was once occupied by farmland. Chef Tom Kearney’s seasonally inspired menu features ingredients from Shelbourne Farms, Golden Ridge Cheese Co-op, Sheldon Farms, local Green Markets, and others..

  1. I am so thankful to have The Farm in our neighborhood! We moved here in December from Chicago, having bought a big old Victorian a few blocks away from the restaurant. What a great thing to not have to go into the city to have a fine meal! I leave happy and content every time I’ve eaten there.

  2. I’ve eaten at the Farm twice and found both visits to be enjoyable. The staff has been friendly and efficient. The food is well prepared and shows some imagination. Fish is done particularly well and I was quite happy with my country pate. Its a nice place and hopefully it will start a trend of creative restaurants in the middle of Brooklyn, saving me the trouble of traveling to Manhattan or Park Slope for an interesting meal.

  3. I have eaten at The Farm on two occasions. My first experience (Jan 2007) was fine except it took a long time to get my soup. I mean, how long does it take to heat up soup? I did not complain, but it did annoy me. When the waitress brought the bill, she informed me that she took off the price of the soup. The soup, when it finally arrived, was excellent. I was impressed with the waitress’ ability to put out a fire. It’s not just the food that needs to be good, the service also needs to be. Good hire choice! It made me come back again – in February. The soup (potato leek this time) was a wonderful precursor to the gnocchi dish.

  4. The experience of dining at The Farm was definately enjoyable. The Gnocchi is a must have and the wine list as well as the drafts availible are plentiful and should meet even the most selective embibers palette. I found the wait/bar staff to be quite pleasant and open to conversation and a light-hearted laugh.
Overall experience, wonderful and inviting. Good for groups or even a dinner for two.

  5. I would love to give a review The Farm on Adderly, but I never got to eat there. That’s because I walked in during the time between brunch and dinner, and didn’t realize that they are closed for a couple of hours to regroup. Which would be fine, except that the bartender was so hostile that my friend and I left feeling horrible. We certainly understand if the place is closed; however, there is no reason to scowl at us and then barely answer our questions. We would have gone back but were not interested in dealing with this guy. Hopefully by the time we get the nerve to go back, he will have realized that bartending is probably not the career for him.
