All great suggestions- also try Petfinder.com and take a look at some Brooklyn shelters and rescues (you can search by zip)
Some have volunteer programns, which kids just LOVE
Also many kids collect donations at school (cash, supplies, toys, food etc) for shelters. Great class project
Not local but has NY Area Reps is dogsdeservebetter.com that works on the plight of dogs chained outside 24/7. They just finished their Valentine project that many kids from around the country participate in. Check the site for the very heartwarming story and the kids’ art work
Not a suggestion but just a “wow”. You don’t hear that much these days, normally just “My kid wants a PSP” or similar. As an animal lover it’s heartwarming to hear that your daughter cares about the abandoned, lost and lonely pups, kitties and other animals of the world. Made my day.
How about Animal Care and Control, where they need help the most… 2336 Linden Blvd.
