Dave Kenney (AKA Dope on the Slope) is thinking about a monthly "social," so that the face-to-face networking can stay alive between blog fests.
I think we should jump on it.
Suggestion to Dave: How about a get-together at Vox Pop in Ditmas Park in June. Then a space in Williamsburg, Bed Stuy or Sheepshead Bay for July and August.
Let’s take the show on the road and get out to the neighborhoods that were not well represented at the Blogfest and hear from all kinds of bloggers.
I loved the open mic and I know that word of the open mic motivated a few bloggers (bklynmama for one) to launch their blogs on the day. Maybe there can be an open mic element to the socials.
Maybe the local bloggers in the nabes where we are meeting can help spread the word to the bloggers we’re not even aware of.
I admit the focus at Thursday’s blogfest was neighborhood blogging, but I know we want to hear from all the variety of bloggers: music, arts, examine your navel, moms, writers, poets, green activists, foodies..
Thursday’s Open Mic was so fun and I just love the image of all those people standing in line to shout-out about what they’re doing. There was such an energy to that.
What works for people? Weeknights are tough. June is a bear of a month. How’s Sunday June 24th as a possible date for a low key get-together at Vox Pop? I’ve never been there but I hear that it’s nice.

btw, vox pop is the host of sustainable flatbush’s monthly (or so) live events… the next one is friday june 15th.
they also have a vegan brunch on the first sunday of the month, prepared by the folks from the postpunk vegan kitchen. super vegan, come on down!
Oh yeah, I say nix Williamsburg (they enough attention already). Greenpoint all the way!
I think every other month might be more realistic. That way there can be more time dedicated to planning (and contingency planning). Just a thought.
I’ve contacted Vox Pop and they’re enthusiastic about hosting. They have a regular open mic at 7pm on Sundays, so our get-together would have to end before then. Sander Hicks suggests afternoon or early evening (5pm).
Personally, I’d prefer an afternoon, if it’s on a weekend. 2PM? 3? 4?
PS: A correction – Vox Pop is NOT in “Ditmas Park,” which is a landmarked area. Technically, it’s in Ditmas Park West, whose northern boundary is the south side of Cortelyou Road. One could also correctly place it in the larger area of Victorian Flatbush, or just Flatbush.

As far as I know, June 24 is good for me. And I live right up the block from Vox Pop, so I can help provide local support. Space there is limited, but they have experience with hosting small events and making the most of it.
YES!!!!!!! I think a monthly gathering of bloggers is a great idea, so we can keep getting to know each other and support one another. Let’s keep the spirit of the Blogfest going throughout the year.
June 24th sounds good to me. Sundays, in general, are a good day of the week. Count me in.
All days are busy, but Sunday afternoons or early evenings probably have the best chance. Thursday nights might also work.
I think June 24 is a good target date.
