Fanny & Alexander is playing at IFC Center on Waverly starting on Jan 2 (original, uncut)! See it on the big screen.

It’s A Wonderful Life.
I watch it once a year, ever year, usually as close to Christmas Eve as I can muster.
But it’s kind of odd, since I don’t even celebrate Christmas, or any holiday season holiday. I just love the film that much. Best scene? The end, of course!
“It’s a Wonderful Life” is one of my favorite movies for all seasons and not just because of Zuzu and her Petals.
“A Christmas Story,” has always been my fave – with Ralphie (who first commercialed as Messy Marvin) navigating through various aspects of his dysfunctional but loving family.
I second that!!! Sym made the best Scrooge, and though this isn’t Christmas related, one of the funniest movies is “The Bells of St. Trinian’s” in which Sym plays the head mistress of a zany girl’s school as well as a louche uncle who saves the day. Alas, the sequel wasn’t nearly as funny.
Hands down, my favorite Christmas movie and scene is the version of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” with Alistair Sym as Scrooge, and the penultimate scene in which Scrooge awakens a changed man, singing, “I don’t know anything” and standing on his head, scares the ghost out of his chambermaid. God bless us everyone!
