Since when did multiple meanings of words cease to exist? The teacher did not use the word as an ethnic or racial slur. She used the word to describe a behavour which was appaling. They had been throwing objects at other students in the room and talking above the volume of the dance performance the rest of the class had been watching, group. Instead she was called a “white jew B……”. They did not understand the words she had used prior to the utterance of the “N” word, to describe their actions such as improper (which was used before each of the following words) decorum, decorousness, social convention, social graces, appropriateness, suitability. without manners. What the teacher had done was break down their behavour into a language they would understand.
The fact that she is white is irrelevant. She was using language as defined as a means to communicate. She did what could be considered politically incorrect. The mother of Pryce shoud have gotten her facts straight before she went to the media. Just because the teacher is of a different visual persuasion is what made this mother yell. Just because the teacher uttered a word which one may not like does not make this individual a racist. She had not used it as an ethnic and or racial slur.
The teacher was frustrated and trying her best. At no time had she used a voice that would be called an “outside voice”. She had spoken calmly attempting to get these few students to comply. It was Pryce who stood up and yelled the word n…… LISTENING IS A LAST SKILL. Taking words out of context is dangerous. This is what is happening to this teacher and it is criminal.
It is unfortuante that ignorance is rampant with this word. In short the teacher was doing one part of her job which is to point out incorrect actions as well as to teach the subject she was employed to do. It is further disgraceful when the press is more interested in selling papers rather that report the facts. Why did they not print the responses from her students who were upset that their teacher was being hurt by the media? Why did they not print the responses from her colleagues who were equally upset that this teacher was being smeared?
Why did the media not print the number of times this parent has complained about 6 other teachers and every administrator in her sons school. And is it not interesting that every adult she had complained about is of another ethnic and racial make- up different from herself. Now tell me who has the problem?
