This beautiful photo depicts the (4th) annual Ribbon Project, which our gay ministry at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church installs each November, just before December 1st, World Aids Day!
Each ribbon bears name of someone who died of AIDS. (Their families and friends have submitted them through the years.) We conduct an interfaith/all faiths/non”faith” service in the church at 7pm in St. Augustine RC Church each year. The service is solemn but encouraging too. We read the names and have a little gathering after. I think — but am not sure that for the past few years, we have been the only World AIDS day memorial in Park Slope. We welcome people to send names of loved ones to us at staugustinegay@gmail.com or to me at mmsnypoet@gmail.com and to come to the church on Dec. 1 at 7.
