Get Your Revolutionary War On With Brooklyn Battle Week

I’m rarely in Brooklyn during Battle Week, the annual commemoration of the Battle of Brooklyn. So I’m excited that I might get a chance to see the Revolutionary War reenactors do their stuff.

The Old Stone House, site of the first battle of the Revolutionary War, is the epicenter of all the Battle Week activities which begin on Saturday, August 21, 11 am – 3:30 pm
 with a Battle of Brooklyn Van Tour with NYC Urban
Park Rangers. Reservations necessary as the seating is limited.

Saturday, Aug. 22, 8 pm & Sunday, Aug. 23, 3 pm Brooklyn Underground: Theatrical Stories from the Green-Wood Cemetery. An original play by The Artful Conspirators from interviews, research and imagination. Directed by David A. Miller, Artistic Director.  Upstairs at the Old Stone House.

Sunday, August 22, 11 am – 2 pm
Tour the sites of the Battle of Brooklyn by Bike with historian Marilyn Pettit! Meet inside the Grand Army Plaza entrance to Prospect Park at the James Stranahan statue, southeast corner between the Park Drive and Flatbush Avenue. Tour ends at Ft.   1. Check your facts. Perhaps you were just typing too fast. I’m not sure what they teach you in New York, but those of us who learned their US history outside of New York State learned that the first battle of the American Revolution was the battle of Lexington and Concord April 19, 1775. (“Shot heard round the world”). The Battle of Brooklyn was fought on August 27, 1776. To your credit, it was the first major battle in the American Revolutionary War following the United States Declaration of Independence.
