Here in Block Island I  took a lazy look at my iPhone and saw on Google Alerts Park Slope that a man was savagely beaten to death on Fifth Avenue! I ran upstairs to my computer so that I could read the story at the Daily News site.

Early Sunday morning, a mob killed Alex Santiago, 22, on Fifth Avenue in Park Slope. They also stabbed a 20-year-old who is in stable condition at Lutheran Medical Center.

The mob, a group of 20 people, pounced on the young men, while a crowd looked on. There had been a fight earlier in the day at Fifth Avenue and 10th Street.

According to the Daily News, “Santiago, his head bludgeoned, was taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, cops said.” His wife stood by. She is expecting a baby in August.
