Seems I made a little mistake yesterday and I apologize. I got a tip from someone in the neighborhood that they were screening the 4th season premiere of Mad Men at Bar 4. Turns out that was wrong, wrong, wrong.
Maybe he meant Bar Reis. I learned of my mistake just as I was trying trying to find a place to view Mad Men on Block Island…
Seems that Mad Men is not such a big deal on Block Island. Hardly anyone else seemed obsessed with finding a place to view AMC. Needless to say, there are no TV sets where I’m staying. But there is a bar with a TV across the street at Spring House (pictured above).
I fantasized that there might be a Mad Men party there. It’s kind of a martini bar and Mad Men is kinda a martini show.
Anyway, The bartender at Spring House was aware of Mad Men though she wasn’t aware of the premiere. She was super nice and she said that if it wasn’t too too busy at 10PM she’d be happy to turn the show on the TV, which is above the far right corner of the bar.
I was psyched!
I arrived at the Spring House bar at 9:56 and the bar wasn’t too crowded and the lovely bartender was true to her word. Except for one problem: they didn’t have AMC. They had just about every other channel in the universe but no AMC.
“Sorry, I lied,” she said. “We don’t have the channel.”
The bartender handed me the remote and told me to cycle through and see if I could find it. I did and I couldn’t. Find it, that is.
Disappointed, I ordered a Diet Coke and sat there sipping while the season premiere was unfolding. Then I walked outside into the beautiful night. The sky was dramatic, the moon was big and close to full. The water was blue and white off in the distance.
Disappointed? Not really. I knew Diaper Diva would update me in the morning. I could live without Mad Men for the night.
Sort of.
Wish I was there.
