The Gate, Park Slope’s very popular indoor/outdoor beer bar on Fifth Avenue and Third Street. has joined the No Stroller brigade. On weekends and holidays at least. Here’s what the sign says:
NO STROLLERS FRIDAY THRU SUNDAY & HOLIDAYS
Sorry Friends, owing to severe stroller and chair overcrowding as of late, we are now enforcing a NO STROLLER policy on WEEKENDS & HOLIDAYS at The Gate
Effed in Park Slope has the pictures.
Excellent! Kids in bars and restaurants are fun to watch, as long as they are not mine and are not misbehaving, but please leave your giant strollers outside.
Yes! Yes!! YES!!! Sanity at last. I have been writing about this here and on my own blog for years. As a parent in Park Slope and as a psychotherapist for 30 years who has worked with scores of families and children, I have been staunchly against the narcissistic, vicarious acting out by adults who want to bring their kids into bars and fine-dining restaurants. It’s not good for anyone – other patrons, the parents themselves and especially, it’s not for the kids. Children need parents who are real grown-ups, not sad excuses for them, parents who actually have lives separate from their kids, adults who can teach respect for others through their actions. Finally!
YES!!!!

I think No strollers is fair enough. I wish they had this for alot of events. Small children need to be in the parks and at home. It’s just too much. If you can’t get a babysitter don’t go. That’s how I feel about it.
