Vox Pop on Saturday: Fundraiser to Replace Stolen and Desecrated StatueVo

Vox Pop 2009 3 Vox Pop shareholder and manager Debbie Ryan dressed the part of Lady
Liberty after she was stolen to call attention to the crime.

The very
disturbing video posted to Youtube has generated widespread media
attention and inspired the community to hold a fundraiser this Saturday at Vox Pop to replace the stolen and desecrated statue.

  1. @Pat K – you’re kidding right? Most neighborhoods in Brooklyn would love to have a place like that on their corner – art, music, films, events, coffee, wine, beer, places to sit inside and out, daytime events, nighttime events, people take their kids, use the wireless. What exactly is your problem with having these things in this neighborhood? Oooh, people “congregate” and they’re a “freak show” (according to some uptight passerby who isn’t even from here.) Sounds downright criminal!
Williamsburg, btw, is strictly for trustafarians who can afford to pay the exorbitant rents, it’s been that way for years. It’s an epicenter of douchebaggery and anyone with half a brain has long since removed themselves and is finding greener pastures all throughout the city (unless they lucked into rent control or some other sweetheart deal). It’s the eternal cycle: artists (who generally care more about culture and community than the almighty dollar) move into what was at the time a cheap neighborhood, they start adding color and life and building community and attracting more people to the neighborhood, it becomes a new “in” place to be, then rents go up, the artists have to start moving out, and before long only the art stars, trust-fund kiddies, shi-shi boutiques, the dentists, and the psychiatrists remain. It happened in SoHo, in Chelsea, in Wburg, in Fort Greene, and will just keep cycling through.
Relax and get a hobby or something. There’s plenty of safe, boring, inoffensive entertainment available that won’t ruffle your delicate sensibilities. I hear the new Ice Age movie is really something. And if you see the scary dirty lefties drinkin their herbal teas and talkin about all that social justice, just keep moving. They don’t want you around anyway.

  2. When did these Lefties and so called Hipsters start flooding this area . When visiting friends we the area we see them congregate up there, looks like a real freak show, what’s wrong got tired of Willyburg, look no further than to someone who hangs out there and has a lot of time on their hands and most likely hates the US
