Who Was Ed Rogowsky?

And why is there a street named after him? Here is New York  wants you to know all about Ed.

I
noticed
some time ago that Sterling Place between Sixth and Seventh had been
renamed in honor of Ed Rogowsky, but I never investigated, possibly
because I liked the mystery of it. Maybe he was a hero of the 1960 plane crash on this corner? Or some champion of a noble cause? My curiosity finally got the best of me after writing yesterday’s
post, and a Google search revealed that this was a guy who really loved his city.

  1. Ed Rogowsky was one of my Poli Sci professors at Brooklyn College in the early 70s (I majored in Poli Sci). He was an amazing teacher and a wonderful mentor to students as well as being the great contributor to the life of NYC. A year ago, I found myself teaching a class in the same room in Whitehead Hall where I took a course in urban politics with Prof. Rogowsky and I thought about him a lot. He deserves the street!
