Today is the 50th anniversary of the day Buddy Holly died.

He died on February 3, 1959, alongside
fellow musicians J.P “The Big Bopper” Richardson and Ritchie Valens, when
their four-seater plane crashed in Iowa, a few minutes after take-off.

In the song "American Pie," singer/songwriter Don Maclean referred to that day as the day the music died.
