Burgers, Burgers, and More Burgers

A slew of new burger joints are popping up all over the Slope. OTBKB friend and reader Elliot tells me that The Brooklyn Burger Bar on the corner of Seventh Avenue and Ninth Street now has a new name and owner.

What is the name, Elliot?

The old place was owned by Greg, of Greg’s Express.

Then there’s Corner Burger which has taken over the space formerly occupied by Mediterra on Fifth Avenue and 6th Street.

Finally, who can forget Five Guys, the burger chain going into part of the vacated D’Agostino space on Seventh Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets.

  1. The name is Flipster’s Brooklyn, and there are even some reviews of the place online already.

  2. My family ate at Corner Burger last week. I think it may have been their first or second day. It appears to be owned by the same couple that owned Mediterra. The change in format has clearly been a good thing for them as I think I’ve seen more people in their restaurant in the past week and a half than I saw in the past four or five months when it was Mediterra.
My review…the burger pretty good, very tasty. The service was really, really slow. Like slow enough I probably could have walked over to the grocery store, purchased some beef, buns, and cheese, gone back to my house, cooked everything, and walked back to the restaurant, getting there around the same time as our restaurant food. There were only two other tables of customers at that time. They have some motto on their menu that says something like “It isn’t fast food, it is home cooked food” but this was a 28 minute wait for two burgers and a grilled cheese sandwich.
A young lady walked in while we were there asking if they were looking for wait staff. She had her resume in hand. The owner woman said “yes” and handed her a pitcher of water. She was hired on the spot and put to work after being in the restaurant less than 20 seconds.
I hope they can get their act together and speed up the time it takes to get the food. We’ll try them again in a couple weeks and see if they get better. I know I will find myself saying “I am hungry for a burger” from time to time, but I know I won’t find myself saying “I am hungry for a burger AND I want to wait a really long time to get it.”
