VALENTINE’S DAY RESERVATIONS

Brooklyn Based reports that you’re already too late to get a Valentine’s Day reservation at three of Brooklyn’s most romantic restaurants. The Grocery, the River Cafe, and Applewood are all booked, but there are still plenty of other places. Check out BB’s recommendations for places that still have space.

But for a cozy, romantic meal on heart’s day, Stone Home Wine and Restaurant in Ft. Greene gets my vote.

  1. I agree with Doug that VD is a challenge for those looking for a nice, quiet meal at a reasonable price. Like every other holiday, it has been overhyped and commercialized.
That said, I got an email from Ft. Greene’s fine restaurant Ici, which is having a very tasty three course Valentine’s Day dinner priced at $70 pp or $105 with a wine pairing. Seems very reasonable and Ici has been consistently good, in my experience. Since the email was sent yesterday, I imagine it’s not too late to get reservations. My Valentine and I will be enjoying our romantic Valentine’s Day meal on board Jet Blue….

  2. I took my very deserving girlfriend to Convivium Osteria on 5th ave last Valentine’s Day for their prix fixe menu, and it was a disaster. They were running behind and the restaurant has no natural waiting area, so we and all the other heavily bundled patrons (it was freezing/snowing outside) were rudely jostled around by waiters for about 30 minutes. When we eventually got our (shared) table, the portions were tiny and the food unexceptional. The price? $325!
VD is the biggest rip-off of the year. Do yourselves a favor, stay home.
