My heart goes out to the parents of Sam Hindy, 27, the Park Slope cyclist who died on the Manhattan Bridge.
"We’re just devastated. This is the worst thing that could happen to any parent. It’s any parent’s worst nightmare," his father, one of the founders of the Brooklyn Brewery, told the press.
A memorial service for Sam Hindy is being held tomorrow (Tuesday, November 20) at 6:30 p.m. at the Picnic House in Prospect Park, according to today’s Daily News. His family has asked that donations in his memory be made to Transportation Alternatives, http://www.transalt.org.
When I commented on the earlier story yesterday, I mentioned that I had met and talked with Sam’s father, Steve Hindy, at a conference last spring. I have now learned that his mother is Ellen Foote, principal of I.S. 89, my daughter’s school. It’s an especially terrible thing to have happened to such fine people.
