Travis Ruse, who won a 2007 Photo Bloggie for Express Train, his photo blog about the subway and the people who ride it, wrote to say that there’s going to be a TAG SALE on his block.
He also asked for my advice about the best place in Park Slope to hang a sign. I like the fence on Third Street just west of Seventh Avenue next to Tempo Presto. It’s sort of a perfect spot for flyers (and people don’t remove them). The window of Pino’s is good. Do you know any other spots?
This tag sale is on one of the great blocks in the south Slope (not Windsor Terrace as I had erroneously said be for
"Not sure if you post these sort of items
but our block is having its first block wide tag sale in at least
5 years on Saturday 10/13, 10am to 3pm. If you can’t post it can
you send me in a direction of the best place to hang a sign? We’re on Webster Place, it’s a one block street between Prospect Ave. and 16th street."
Wow! MARS cafe at 1228 Flatbush makes me think that Brooklyn is truly becoming the new Manhattan. The owner really needs to put a big sign with the name outside the cafe but the warm dark wood and classy decor lured me in. I went back three times in one week! I had a sampling of a Spanish Tortilla that was made with potatoes, onions and eggs which makes my mouth water just to think of it. I ordered the Paella and enjoyed an incredible cup of Italian coffee while I did some work on my computer and waited. Great take out menu. The number is 718-282-4460. I recommend the seafood crepe, Paella, Risotto or Fish. It’s all good. Call ahead for the Paella. It takes 30 minutes to make but what a treat!!!
I recently moved from Toronto to Brooklyn, New York and thought that I wouldn’t find a small trendy cafe with cheap prices and excellent food but recently discovered a cafe at 1228 Flatbush at Ditmas/Avenue D. The food is incredible. Mediterranean fare. Risotto, Paella, crepe, Fish – anyway you like it. The chef makes a Fresh Salmon on a croissant sandwich that’s to die for and the Paella is too good for the low price! Check it out. If you don’t want Roti and fried chicken and are looking for fine dining on a beer budget this place is it!!! It’s Flatbush’s best kept secret. It’s been open a month, says the owner who reconstructed the cafe and cooks the meals. His English is not great but he’s fluent in French and Spanish. The decor is warm and the cafe classy. It’s as good or better than anything I’d found in the Tdot!
Agreed that Webster Place is a great block. It’s not in Windsor Terrace though. You have to walk up three avenues to get to WT.
