They may live in different buildings, in different neighborhoods, but some Brooklyn tenants share a common fear – displacement.
They gathered for a town hall meeting organized by local elected
officials and housing advocates Wednesday night in Fort Greene to share
their complaints and seek help."You have an affordable housing crisis that began in Fort Greene
and it’s sweeping eastward through Clinton Hill into Bedford
Stuyvesant,” said Brooklyn Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries. “What started
in Prospect Heights is sweeping eastward into Crown Heights, and
long-term residents are being put out by landlords who are seeing
dollar signs."

For the person that called us loser’s you are a jerk! My grandmother is 97 and will be kicked out of her apartment soon, because her color is no longer wanted in this neighborhood. You are a very insensitive person to call us losers! That is great you purchased a place. I guest everyone is not as fortunate as yourself.
Screw all of you! I own a place in Clinton Hill, which I worked hard to be able to buy, and gentrification will make my place worth more. Period. So stop complaining, save your money, and buy an apartment. Losers.
“MANHATTANIZATION”?
Gentrification is more a more appropriate word, I think.
And yes, it is indeed happening. But, what I don’t understand is, why is everyone so surprised?
Look at: Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Carrol Gardens, the Smith Street Strip…the list goes on. These spots were ALL once poorer, more bohemian neighborhoods. (My parents had a carriage house apt. in the early 80’s in the Heights for $450 a month!)
This has happened before…and it will happen again. And, I find it rather humorous that the people that seem to be making the biggest stink about this issue are: Former gentrifiers! People move into The Heights, The Slope, and so on, and they gentrify the place, and then they complain that it’s become yuppie central! Take a look in the mirror!
I’ve got news for everyone…Brooklyn is just going to get hotter and hotter. It’s cheaper than the city, and, well, we all know, it’s frikkin’ awesome!
I don’t mean to sound insensitive, but, in all honesty, I’m not hearing the displaced…I’m hearing the displacer’s…they staked their spots out and now they’re mad that it’s not the quiet block they thought it would be.
Well, cry me a river…
The sad truth is, well, sad, but, it’s inevitable.
