NEW YORK — If you’re
outraged by the menus and supermarket, drugstore and other circulars
left on your doorstep, then you should love a new proposal from New
York City Councilman Simcha Felder.
The Democratic councilman, whose district includes parts of
Brooklyn, intends to introduce legislation that would make it illegal
to distribute menus, circulars and fliers to homes and apartment
buildings that display a sign indicating promotional materials are
unwanted.
Felder’s bill calls for a fine of at least $50 for distributors that leave them anyway.
“This drives people out of their minds,” said Felder, referring to
complaints from his constituents, mostly homeowners, in the Midwood,
Borough Park and Bensonhurst neighborhoods. “You have no control over
it. People are livid. If I’m responsible for the cleanliness of my
property I should also have the authority to decide whether I receive
the junk or not. You shouldn’t have to be responsible for cleaning up
someone else’s garbage.”
Felder said the accumulation forces property owners to clean it up
or risk getting a summons from the Department of Sanitation, like the
$100 summons his mother, a Midwood resident, received this year. It
also poses a security risk as mounds of circulars tell would-be
burglars that residents might be out of town, he said.
Hello my name is Tony Brown. I am a proud father of a beautiful little girl. On Thursday May 17, 2007 around 4:30 pm I went to pick up my daughter from daycare (Candy Kids 3212 Church Avenue B.K. N.Y. 11226). Upon entering the facility I saw my daughter with her pants down along side with another child which was the opposite sex being cleaned by an employee of the daycare. I then approached the manager/supervisor of the site (Ms. Lawrence) and she told me that’s how they work. I then told her I don’t want my daughter exposed to any boy in the bathroom, I don’t care if they are accompanied by an adult or not, my daughter is at that age where she notices things.
My wife and I pay 95 dollars a week to the daycare for their services. Ms. Lawrence told me that they had made a mistake and we will have to start paying 100 dollars per week since our daughter is not fully potty trained. In addition I would have to pay the back pay from all those weeks (9) that we didn’t pay 100 dollars. I then asked Ms. Lawrence why do we have to pay for your mistake. Ms. Lawrence stated that we are human and I don’t even know why I am talking to you, your not even the mother. I told Ms. Lawrence my daughter has two parents not one. Ms. Lawrence told me that she doesn’t care if she has three parents, she doesn’t need to handle anything with me.
I felt disrespected as a father and as a human being. I called numerous times and asked to speak to her superiors and was told that she is the hight in command. I feel that this situation needs to be handled one way or another. It is of the highest importance. I called daycare services (212-676-2444) and informed them on the situation and about her conduct. (They said they couldn’t do anything about it)
I returned to Candy Kids on Mon. May 21, 2007 at 5:30pm to pick up my daughter. Ms. Lawrence told me that my daughter can’t attend there anymore because I reported her. She also told my wife that if she would just kept the problem between them it wouldn’t have gotten to this point.
I believe that, as a father I have the right to defend my daughter in any occasion. I have the right to choose who my three year old daughter should be exposed to, hang out with and be well informed on any activities that she is apart of. I have the right not to be disrespected, mistreated or looked down upon from anyone.
I believe that being a father is not a part time job. Its a lifetime learning process in which my child will make me be a better man, so I can be a better father.
I love my daughter with all my heart and soul, she is my everything, not a day goes by that I don’t thank God for giving me such a beautiful treasure
Being that its a private school ACS and other child services can’t do anything. If you have any information of who can I contact about this;

Thanks for mentioning this. These fliers in my view are litter in my front yard and in our neighborhood. Glad to hear someone is working on it. If you hear anything more on how we can support this effort, please let us know.
