Here’s No Land Grab’s round up of One Way No Way activity on blogs and elsewhere.
Everyone’s talking about One Way No Way in the Slope. I overheard Angela, the PS 321 crossing guard on 2nd Street, explaining to a parent why it’s such a terrible idea. "I don’t want children to get killed…" I overheard her saying.
I hope she’s planning on going to tonight’s meeting at the Methodist Hospital auditorium at 6:30 p.m. entrance on 6th Street between 7th and 8th Avenue.
Alas, I won’t be there. Going out of town.
Ok, As much as I don’t think having the one-way streets is a grand idea, I think playing up the crossing guard’s statement is being a little sensationalistic. How many people are killed on Amsterdam Ave. on the Upper West Side or 1st Ave. on the Upper East Side? Those are wider one-way streets with a light system that makes it possible to go the entire length of the avenues without stopping. Yet, I don’t hear much about children routinely getting killed by cars.
There are rational and irrational ways to argue against one-way streets. This strikes me as irrational.
