PARK SLOPER SUES LANDLORD OVER BEDBUGS

I don’t like to think about them. I didn’t even want to put this story up on the blog But it is a Park Slope story and I figured — I can be brave…

This from 1010 WINS

Ellyn Gliksman-Sullivan lived in Park Slope for almost 25 years, but
had to evacuate her apartment in 2006. Attorney Alan Schnurman, who
represents
Gliksman-Sullivan said that eight months ago she awoke covered in
bites, and doctors diagnosed her as having been attacked by bedbugs,
and she went home to discover hundreds of them had infested her home.

Schnurnan said she notified her landlord, who had an exterminator do
"cursory spraying," but that the problem persisted. She left because
she was afraid to stay and couldn’t sleep knowing the apartment was
infested, and because the landlord and building management did nothing
further to help, her lawyer said.

Gliksman-Sullivan has been commuting four hours a day to her Manhattan job from her home in Upstate New York.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Kings County Supreme Court against
the owner, Manhattan Eight Corporation and Isaac Wade, the managing
agent.

  2. This building is rented to people who don’t know their rights so they live in a dirty infested building and the landlord loves them. Ms. Glicksman-Sullivan was one of the only smart ones who exercised her rights over the many, many years she lived there and always offered to help people living there with all the mice and holes get their apartments fixed. But they would rather gossip instead of read the law. That was her home, and she had no intention of leaving. 2 other apartments had bedbugs earlier that year and one apartment continues to have it. To have to throw out Everything one owns and go through the hell she did, wasn’t a choice. The longer these people with no intelligence continue to spew their uneducated babble the longer they will live like pigs. Just go to the building now and then and see for yourself – the dirtiest building on the block. I can’t wait until I get out. The landlord was getting only a third of the rent he could get for that apartment. Wait untl it happens to them. Oh, and the law is crystal clear – even if you bring in the bugs, landlord is still responsible. But she didnt – they don’t want to deal with the fact that 2 other apartments had it, one in her line and a third in her line which still hasn’t been exterminated.

  3. This women brought these “bed bugs” into her apartment several months ago and decided to tell the landlord only recently. Something does not add up to her story.

  4. This woman is not mentally healthy, everyone in the building knows this. She bought her house upstate and had been planning a way to squeeze the landlord out of money
