  1. Be careful if considering buying anything from Gift & Home (162 7th Avenue). My daughter bought mittens (on sale) there and when she came home, she noticed that one of them had a little hole in them that we did not detect when trying them on in the store. She took them back two days later and wanted her money back. The store owner told her that she had broken them and that she was a liar. She did not get her money back, just store credit, which she did not want.
Today I went to the store together with my daughter and told the owner that I witnessed that my daughter discovered the hole immediately upon coming home from the store. Now the owner told me I am a liar.
My daughter still did not get her money back and had to use the store credit to buy something she did not really want to buy.
I have never experienced anything like this in any Park Slope store before. Usually vendors are friendly and take items back, even when they are not broken. They are smart enough to want to keep their customers happy -and returning. This man had the audacity to accuse us of breaking the mitten and lying about it. I am appalled. Needless to say, we do not trust this vendor anymore and cannot recommend this store to anyone.

  3. Smartmom deserves a round of applause, a pat on the back and a group hug for putting together this gift guide. It is alot of work…. this is the sort of thing people get paid to do.
As a local merchant, i am grateful for the recognition.
Park Slope stores need Park Slope business. We are here to service this community and if our neighbors don’t “SHOP LOCAL”…..we find ourselves sort of all dressed up with nowhere to go.
Thanks, Smartmom, for the big promotional freebee…
I nominate you for THE LIST.

  4. I guess this marks my 1-year anniversary for reading OTBKB–I came across your blog when I was hunting for info on where to buy christmas trees in the Slope and your gift guide caught my attention. Thanks for doing it again!
    Happy Holidays :-)
