ITCHY HANDS AND FEET: ALLERGIC REACTION IN THE HAMPTONS

The strangest thing happened to me last night after dinner at East Hampton’s Della Femina restaurant (this was after screening of Margarete Von Trotta’s film "I Am The Other Woman at the Hamptons International Film Festival).

I had a weird allergic reaction and I have no idea what caused it. My hands and feet itched under the skin. My right eye got swollen and my nasal passages got stuffed up. I had a hard time swallowing and was generally very uncomfortable.

The itching on the palms of my hands and soles of my feet was probably the worst part of it.

Here’s what had for dinner:

A delicious three mushroom and broccoli soup with cheddar cheese

A pork chop with apple compote, celery root slaw and swiss chard

Two glasses of a French red wine

Then my hands started to itch. It got worse before it got better. I slept fitfully. Took a Claritin. Thankfully, when I woke up I felt fine. The whole thing was so mysterious.

  1. i was out walking in the woods behind my house and i ran into this sticky vine! i don’t know what it is, but i do know that it made my foot sting ’cause, stuiped of me really,i was waering flip-flops and it touched me feet. now they are bumpy, red, and sting! please HELP!!!!

  2. I too have the itchy hands and feet. Started for me about a month after we moved into our new house. This was last November 2008. i take a 10mg Zyrtec cut in half (5 mg) every morning, and it helps. But I also take a benadryl at night before I go to bed. For me, if I miss a day of zyrtec or benadryl, the itching comes at 3am in the morning. Why at this time, i don’t know. but it never fails. It happens at 3am if I miss a dose of zyrtec. My doc has tested me for celiac disease, but it came back negative. I am allergic to most plants/weeds/pollens, but I don’t think that is it b/c this started in the winter time when I wasn’t even outside that much. crazy! I don’t think it is stress b/c I was on zoloft when this started, so i had very minimal stress. I have since gone off the zoloft, but the itching is still here. I think it may be an autoimmune response of some sort. I cannot pinpoint a specific food that I eat that triggers this. HELP if you have any suggestions!!

  3. Wow, I’m glad to see that I am not a hypochondriac, I started using flax seeds and the oil in my diet the other day. I mixed a tblsp of the oil in yogart and sprinkled the seeds on my salad. Within an hour of taking the oil I started vomiting until I had nothing more in my stomach. Along with this I had a horrible headach and some mild chills. I have no idea if this was connected to the flax seed but by the time I went to bed that night I had also developed a horrible itching all over my body but especially on my hands and feet. Man, after what I had just gone throught with the vomiting, I couldn’t believe this itch attack. It was so intense that I scratched my feet raw and felt like I was going to go insane. Does anyone know if there is such a reaction to flax seeds and oil?

  4. I’ve developed itchy hives on either (or all) my forearms, neck, hands, feet, ankles, inner thighs, and/or chest everyday for about the last 15 years. Sometimes in conjunction I get itchy-burning-swollen hands a feet. After prolonged periods of this my hands and feet tend to bruise and the joints in my fingers become painful. I have been prescribed a combination of medications: Zyrtec 10mg (before it was OTC), Doxepin 50mg and with Flonase nasal spray. These medications usually subside the symptoms, however I can immediately tell when the medication is wearing off- usually late in the day when it is time for the next dose. Occasionally the symptoms are so bad that the medication has little effect.
Recently I went to the dentist for an achy tooth. I was told I had an infected tooth and before I could get a root canal I needed to eliminate the infection. The dentist prescribed Amoxicillin (a type of penicillin) even though I told him I was allergic to penicillin. I have always been told that I was allergic to penicillin and that I developed a rash from it as an infant. The dentist told me that he wanted me to use it anyway because it was common for infants to have reaction to penicillin and not as adults. Unfortunately against my better judgment I accepted his word. After taking the Amoxicillin for 3 days I developed hives all over my body, itchy–burning-swollen hands and feet and unfortunately the allergy medicine did not give me relief. After discontinuing use of the Amoxicillin it took a full miserable week for the symptoms to go away. It has been 3 weeks since this happened and I have developed all of the symptoms again. I don’t know if it is related to the Amoxicillin or something else. I suspect the strawberries I ate several days ago are the culprits, but I’m not sure. At any rate I am miserable, a warm shower gives me temporary relief of the itching, but my hands and feet are very sensitive to heat when this happens.
I may be demented, but I am glad to see I’m not alone in this and that so many people have the same problems.

  5. I have had allergies since I was a teenager. It got worse as I got older and most doctors, don’t seem to know what the exact causes and triggers are. I almost died last year due to my allergies. The itching appears all over my body at times, but the worse is always on the bottom of feet and sometimes my hands. It really hurts when it is in my knees. I read an article once about hives that come from an allergic reactions that appear around the bones when you have a reactions and causes the itching to be really intense. I must say, I am doing so much better, Thank God!!!, but I take Singular and Loratadine every day for in and outdoor allergies. When I have an allergic reaction in my feet or hands I use Triamcinolone Acetonide cream. Usually spicy foods or some fast foods such as Krystals will cause me to have an allergic reactions, as well as certain types of generic drugs.
Good luck, I know how you feel, and some people take it so lightly, because they don’t understand…

  6. Hello, my itching started two days ago, out of nowhere, random places! No rash, no bites. It hasn’t stopped since. My palms and my feet are so bad. This is torture! I went to the doctor, the only thing he said was he doesn’t see a bite. Told me to take cold showers and use creams in case my skin is dry. I told him to touch my god damn skin, because my skin is never ever dry and he said i was right, it wasnt dry at all
    Did anyone find a solution?

  7. PLEASE go get tested for food allergies! Very, Very IMPORTANT! Especially since you had difficulty swallowing. It is good to know what to avoid. These tests may save your life for the next time you come in contact with whatever you are allergic to. Keep the list of ‘all’ of the foods you ate that day and tell the doctor. There is something called Anaphylaxis shock from severe food allergies. You cannot breathe. VERY SERIOIUS. Play it safe and get tested. God bless you and keep you safe!

  8. Hi, have had an itch that covers the whole of my body, especially the hands and feet and ankles. The palms of my hands and inbetween the fingers are hot and damp and so are the soles of my feet. I drank the night before it happened and since I have had no respite. Have tried all of the anti – hystamines eg, Benedral, Loratadine and Cietzerine. Went to the Dr.s who has given me some Fenxofedine 120mg (only cab be got with a prescription) although, he suggested blood tests would be a good idea too. Hope this helps

  9. hands itching, feet the same, occasionally have welts all over, could it be stress related?

  10. I get itchy nose and then through out my body my husband says it is from drinking beers. i have no rash, but from the top of my head to toes i itch and itch. i think it is allergy but he keeps telling me it the beers. please does anyone itch all over, not just the palm and feet
i am going crazy with it. When it gets real bad i drink fall asleep and when i wake up the itch is gone
    go figure…..

  11. I can’t believe that so many other people are having my problems with hot, burning, itching feet! Sometimes I tear up the soles of my feet with my fingernails, but nothing helps. I have never tried benedril. The only drug that I know that I am allergic to is penicillin. I have been taking the anti-depressant Effexor XR for the past 8 years, and I have been having this hot, burning, itching feet since that time, but it has never been as badf as it has been here of late. Thanks for this blog.

  12. I am really pleased I found this blog. It really helps to know that you’re not the only one. My mum suffered a severe attack to her hands and feet and tried to comfort her with rubbing her feet. The itching was so intense I tied her feet with string to counteract the itching. The doctors’ appear at a loss when we try and explain the allergy. Thank you for enlighting us on all your experiences.

  13. To add to my previous comment just now….as I said I have a prescription for an “epi pen” shot in case the allergic reaction occurs again if by mistake I eat food that I am allergic to. This prescription would be very helpful to all the people who start to have the itchy hands and feet and if it gets worse having an epi pen available will help most cases. You need to see a doctor first and he will prescribe it to you. It is more helpful than the benedryl especially if it spreads to the face and your eyes are affected.
And it is definately necessary if your breathing is affected.
You also may have to be tested to see which food you are allergic to so you know. In my case I still dont know if it was the clams or the trail mix as I ate both. But I think it was the clams.
    Ruth

  14. Hello,
I have experienced the itchy hands one time after I ate a clam roll and then later trail mix as I was driving home from vacation. It got worse and worse as I was driving to the point that my face was all red and my eyes looked red and I had to pull over to a shopping mall and ask for help. They got an ambulence and took me to the hospital. It seems that I had an allergic reaction and the first sign is usually the itchy hands and depending on how much of the food you ate that is the “culprit” then it will get worse unless you get medical help. It tooks three hours with intensive emergency care to bring me back to normal. NOw I have an Epi pen with me all the time in case it happens again, I cag=n give myself the shot.

  15. I get itchy hands palms and top also my feet on the top is not all the time one in a while i feel attack i have try creams, allergy meds, and they don’t work the only thing that works is HOT WATER I go to the tub and run it as hot as i can stand it and it totally helps. i get it mainly in the evenings when i drink red wine it intensifies also when i eat out. i get this here and there one time i had to run home because it was all over my body and i had to run for my hot tub… i hope somebody could helps us with this ….

  16. I appreciate everyones comments. It does help to know your not alone.
A week or so ago I started with this horrible hand itching, my palms and fingers! So terrible and hot to the touch. That is weird because my hands are always freezing cold, ALWAYS. Within about 30 minutes my feet started in, mostly the soles and up by my ankles. There is no redness, no lesions, no sores or bumps or rash. Just burning hot and an itch that is out of this world! I wake up in the mornings and my hands and feet are so swollen it’s also unbarable and so hard to walk on rolly polly feet because they are so swollen. I try rubbing hydrocortizone cream on them and it helps until the cream soaks in, which is a few minutes and then it’s back again. I’ve tried rubbing them with waterless surgical scrub (I work in a surgery center) to see if the alcohol will work, I haven’t used anything latex for a couple of years, so that isn’t it either. I have however started taking generic Aleve about 3 weeks ago for horrible foot pain and joint pain. I will have to ask my Nephrologist on Monday if there is a link to the generic Aleve and this itching. Will follow up on this blog for those interested.
I am going totally insane with the itching. I do not have allergies to any foods, so this is something that has to be caused by medication or is something else. Any input would be great if you have any ideas. Can’t take Benedryl, wipes me out for days at a time, even the 25mg smallest dose. I am at a loss with this one. No ideas at all what to do. I do have stage 3 Kidney Disease and if this is a symptom of that I will also find that out Monday. If it is, it’s not good I know that much at least.

  17. I’m really glad I found this Blog. I did a search for Itching of ankles, wrists and palms and here I am. Sounds like I’m older than most of you at age 67 and experiencing these symptoms for the first time this winter. I too first attributed them to dry weather in the winter but now I don’t think so. I noticed the sulfa alergy which I share. I don’t drink red wine but I did drink two bottles of Mexican beer last night…New Years Eve after all….and last night was awful with the feet itching around the ankles and the bottoms of both feet. The other food item in last night’s meal that might be suspect from reading other’s comments is the Shrimp!! To the poster who listed THRUSH as a symptom, you might want to see your dentist. I have been diagnosed with Lichen Planus (I believe that is the spelling) and have even had one liesion removed and biopsied. Lichen Planus is an auto immune disease and my family is prone to these auto immune problems with stuff like Multiple Schelorosis, Lupus, Scheloderma, and some others that don’t come to mind right now. So back to the itching….right now it’s just below my right ankle….I’ll try the benedryl as many of you have suggested and see how that works.

  18. I also am bothered by this horrible itching, worst on hands and bottoms of feet, from inside, have also had attacks where I itch all over. I have tried several detox programs and have tried eliminating nutrition supplements one at a time, have also taken out wine and cheese from my diet for a given amount of time. All to no avail. I have not yet seen a specialist because I have hoped to figure it out and don’t want to hear someone say just take such and such medecine. I am wondering if it is something I breathe. Glad to find your blog, as I had begun to wonder if it was some strange disease. I will write again when I find the answer! Thanks for your information.

  19. I’m in Florida and think i might have bitten last week and last night but cant find a bite mark. my back side last week felt as if there was a piece of plastic under my skin, hard swelling. my palms itched and it flet like a pill in my throat. after 3 days it all went away. but last night same thing on back of my thie, again no visble bite but the symptoms although the same are not as severe, like i might be getting used to it or “got hit” with less of whatever it is!
i skipped lunch and didnt eat any dinner or snacks, Mountain Dew (the cans came sticky) is the only consumption both days.

  20. I am 56 years old and never was allergic to anything but royal bee jelly. Awful! Now, I have extremely itchy, under skin, bottom of feet. I want to dig. But, it changes, the next day it might be inside of forearms or back. I have been drinking alcohol but didn’t connect it because it doesn’t seem to be hours after. Could be days later. There is no swelling or redness apart from itching that is. I have been wondering about toxicity of vitamins like the B complex. Anyone else taking vitamins maybe a lot?

  21. I had severe joint pain, swelling, and itchy feet and hands when I was 30 years old. Some mornings it was unbearable to walk. I went to doctors who tried everything from allergy meds to steroids. Nothing worked. I was living in Connecticut at that time, and suffered with the symptoms for almost 3 years. I finally moved away from the East Coast and have not had any symptoms in 9 years. I am convinced it was due to something in thew environment that I was breathing.

  22. Hi, I’ve had a lot of these symptoms for years and the itchy feet can be so intense it’s painful. I’ve found that cutting out everything with soy in it is the answer for me, however, that’s easier said then done, soy is in everything!!!!

  23. Holy Crap!!
I’ve had itchy hands and feet for 6 days now.
I take the Life brand Allergy Formula (cause it’s cheaper than the brand name stuff, and works just as well)
The tops of my hands, my wrists, my ankles, the bottoms of my feet, as well as the tops just starting itching out of nowhere. I woke up last Tuesday with itchy hands, then in a couple of hours it went to my feet. No marks. No anything. Just itchiness. I thought it might be dry skin since it winter just started out of nowhere, but I don’t think that’s it because cream doesn’t really help. The allergy pills do. It has to be an allergic allergy to something. I have no allergies, so this is really weird!!!
    I hate being itchy! :(

  24. I have all of the same symptoms i believe for me it is caused by two things my new carpet and the Antibacterial dish soap that i have been using the soap is not my usual brand it is something that my daughter bought because it was cheap I have noticed that every time i do the dishes i would have all the same symptoms yesterday i went and bought my usual dish soap to see if that is the problem i know that the new carpet is a problem because when i touch it i brake out in hives all over my arms p.s. maybe you all should check to see if it might be your carpet or Antibacterial products that you might be using

  25. Intense itching in the feet. Not as bad in the hands and it gets worse when I eat sugar but that might be coincidental. I’m on something called adp and fc-cidal from a naturalpathic doctor. The itching in the feet is not as intense and I have been taking the supplements for three weeks now. Good luck.

  26. I’ve had the same as all for years. I tried everything…been to all types of Drs. Something that works better than most is soaking my feet in the Aveeno Oatmeal powder. You can get hte packets at most Drug or Grocery stores. It takes the itching away as well as helps to heal the skin.

  27. Exactly same reaction – very itchy palms and feet – bit of a puffy face and a little hard to breath. After reading this I believe it was from some sulfates/sulfites I eat 1-2 hours earlier in some dried peaches and prunes I bought from costco. Took some benedril and we will see what happens in the morning

  28. Tonight I wanted to treat myself like old times when I cooked at my restaurant, so I bought some shrimp and and baby bella mushrooms I seasoned them with kosher salt, saffron in large quantities and also red hot pepper instead of black. I put some white heavy cream, the meal delicious and the aftermath the nightmare. I had a glass of water and all of a sudden I couldn’t explain what was happening to me. My hands are still itching and the soles of my feet as well. HORRIBLE the only thing that calmed a little is ice and took two benadrils but it is not working.. I hope it will… at least I am relieved that what I got is a terrible allergy from any of those ingredients…never again

  29. I’ve had a problem with this also. Two differences though, it effects mostly my feet and legs. It also gets worse in the evening, this maybe because I’m distracted during the day. Has anyone had a diagnosis that they felt was accurate?

  30. After touching various places in the supermarket, the supermarket register counter, or refrigerator doors, packages of frozen items, sometimes, more often lately my finger pads begin to swell, turn red and become very hot more so than the itching. In the last 2 years I’ve developed allergies, seemingly out of nowhere.

  31. My hands and feet began itching badly under the skin. No signs of skin problems — strickly UNDER the skin. I rubbed myself with anything scratchy.
On the second day the itching spread to my ears and around my head. Some lumps appeared around my head but no skin openings.
On the third day the ears and head calmed down and the itching eased up on my hands and feet but some of my finger joints began to get stiff.
Benadryl helps a lot but only last for about 2 hours. I have not yet seen a doctor.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

  32. Hi,three days ago, I ate some ice cream, peanut butter/jelly sandwich, and some corn puffs(white cheddar). I had a glass of milk too. About one hour later, I started to experience intestinal cramps really bad. Then, the palm of hands, and soles of my feet started to turn red, burn, and sting. The itching was unbearable. Also, red bumps with redness around them, popped up everywhere on my body. I took a benadryl, and in about an hour, all the signs disappeared.I’m not sure which of these foods I must be allergic to. What makes a person so sensitive to foods? Is there something our body needs to strengthen our immune system? I do not have health Insurance, because of my health problems, so going to the doctor is out. Does anyone have some answers? Thanks.

  33. I took a echinecia herbal supplement this morning and about 30 minutes late my feet and hand were ithcing like CRAZY and they hurt alot…aching and stabbing pains. My hands swelled up a bit too.
The wierd thing is, I have taken it before with no problems. I took it on a empty stomach this time, maybe that’s why???
I have NEVER had an alergic reaction to anything in my life before this. I hope this goes away soon!

  34. I was diagnosed with a sulfa allergy several years ago while on an antibiotic. D I usually have a glass of red wine in the evenings. During the weekends, I often have a couple. Some evenings during the week, and for the past few weekends, I have experienced HORRIBLE itching and rash on body … extremities have been the worst. Also, I suffer from severe sinus stuffiness and eye watering at night and in early morning. It has continued to worsen over the past year. I am currently on a diet, and I have indulged in a glass of red wine only a few times. Two days ago, I commented that my stuffiness and and eye tearing/swelling has been much better this week. Also, I have only had a couple of severe bouts of itching at night, also having to use my inhalers in the morning. Tonight, I had a glass of red wine with my veggies and vegetable soup. I began itching within minutes, became stuffy, and eyes started watering. I took a maximum dose of benadryl, pondering what could be causing this incredibly bothersome reaction. It is clearly an allergic reaction, but to what? Given that my diet consists of mostly fruits and veggies this week, it was easy to determine. I was able to clearly determine the correlation between those few occasions this week I indulged in a glass of red wine and my allergic symptoms … I looked up red wine allergy on the internet, and I was shocked that the first several sites to come up linked my symptoms, red wine, and sulfa allergy together very clearly. As much as I enjoy a glass of red wine … it is NOT worth the misery. I am so relieved to have finally found the cause of these issues … oh, well – sugar free lemonade tastes almost as good … maybe I will drink it in a wine glass (-;

  35. Thanks so much for this article / blog thread! I have, over the years, had this syndrome… and it drives me crazy…
hands, wrists, itchy… and last night my chin/bottom lip ‘hived’ for awhile… not sure what the cause was…but benedryl did help…
I had a pout lip (free botox… ? LOL! Not pretty!
I have some food allergies, and seasonal bouts…
Good to read that this isn’t just me !
(although, I have empathy for us all! ) !!

  36. Thanks to everyone for posting your experience with the internal itching on the soles of the feet, palms of the hand, between the fingers and toes. I have taken the advice of several and will work on this. My doctor just told me it was an “allergy” and there was nothing to do but take Benadryl if the itching persisted. So, thank you all, thank you.

  37. Guys, I had this happen last night while in a movie eating popcorn. I research about an HOUR and think I found the culprit, as this has now happened 3 times during/after a MOVIE! I think mine is the food additive #635 (sodium 5 ribonucleotide, which is similar to MSG, but much more powerful!). It is a part of the coconut oil which is used in the popcorn oil in movie theaters! Another time I was a home and developed the hives after eating salty pretzels. I thought maybe it was the salt, but now I’m thinking it’s the 635 that I’m allergic to.

  38. i have to commiserate. I’ve been reading the comments on this thread since i found it a few months ago. I’ve been experiencing these itchy welts/hives/swelling hands/feet etc for a good 6-8 months now. Until recently they would come and go with a few days to a week in between. In the last couple weeks they have been constant. Its infuriating! I’m without insurance, so i haven’t seen a doctor. The Aleve post was interesting, since I’ve been taking generic ibuprofin whenever there is a ‘serious’ flare up (like if I can’t walk straight cause my feet are swollen and feel ready to burst). Maybe its the pills that are causing the reaction??? GAH! I’ve also been experiencing some throat reflux, so thanks for the heads up on a possible connection there…its a mystery.

  39. Im so upset it started as itchy feet then it spread to my hands and then to all over me it drove me crazy the itching is not as intense but my hands and feet started to peel it starts as a little white air bubble type thing then it starts to peel as if I got glue on my hands and feet that just peels off like nothing it’s not painful at all but I feel like a reptile of some sort it’s horrible I don’t wanna go to school all nasty and what not I haven’t eaten anything new I went to my doctor and she told me nothing I didn’t know my mom is gonna try to make an appointment with a dermatologist but Idk it’s rather awful I just wanna curl up in a ball please help!!!!!!

  40. I went to the doc yesterday for itchy and very sore hands and feet. I also had small itchy bumps on my wrists, shoulder and legs. They were small and would come and go. After three days, I couldn’t take it any longer. I went to the doc yesterday and she prescribed three days of Prednisone and a reflux medicine since I have a burning in my throat as well. She also recomended taking a Claritin once a day. This is the first day and I feel a little better. She said that the Prednisone will help calm of the receptors in my body. She said that this an allergic reaction to something and my body is freaking out. My feet are so sore that I can barely walk. I am only 36 and have four young kids so this is not helping day to day responsibilties. I have never had a reaction before. I did eat out twice in the last week and had to dash home to use the restroom. I had salad at both places so I have to wonder if the sulfate post is right on target.

  41. Alright, I have had the symptons of bronchitis for about the last two weeks. In the last two or three days I have had this itching spell that everyone else is having, only the hands and feet itch. After the first day of experiencing this itching spell, I took a trip to the beach, and after about an hour of being out of the water my fingers started to swell so bad I thought they were going to burst. They eventually went back to normal but I still have this bad itching spell and also still have the bronchitis symptons.
Im wondering if this is an allergic reaction to something airborn or something in food/water??
I have always had a history of really bad seasonal allergies, especially in the spring time. But I have never had this itching spell nor have I ever had bronchitis, nor have I ever had any allergy symptons in the Fall season. Its quite weird.
The only real diet change that I have made in the last couple months is that I have started to eat honey in the morning for breakfast, whether this is the culprit, I dont know, but I will elminate honey from my diet for awhile now just to see if any difference happens.
I might also do a fruit fast followed by a water fast just to eliminate any toxins that might be in my system. Ill update you guys with the results.
    -Sean

  42. My itching on my hands and feet is unbearable!!! Last night I stood on a hairbush and just twisted my feet into it. A car mat turned over also works really good!!! I give my son Twizzler’s candy for every 5 minutes he scratches my feet. My doctor gave me a topical cream to stop the itch and my son begged me not to put it on so he could earn his candy. Poor baby, could this be considered child abuse? LOL! Anyway the topical ointment is called Topicort. My feet and hands quit itching almost immediately. My feet burn now, but I read that is a side effect that may last a couple of days until the RX gets into your system. I would rather have the burning than that maddening itch. I got the perscription from my dermatologist. I also get hives. My doctor said it is all part of the same thing. Sometimes a touch of thrush occurs, which I did not realize that was what apparently has been happening to me until I read the post from the person who said this itching is related to the the chichen pox and shingles virus.
I truly hope this helps someone!! If it doesn’t, I guess we could start a club where we all sit around and just scratch each others feet and hands. haha

  43. I had started to get intense itching in the palms of my hands and feet after eating canned peaches and then after I ate canned kidney beans. Then the third or 4th time, I ate a small bite of cheddar cheese and within seconds went into anaphylactic shock and almost died. I have an epipen now but no idea what the ingredient is. I’m going to see an allergist soon. Anybody with such intense itching after consuming food or drink really needs to see a doctor. If I was home alone I do believe I would have died, due to the drop in blood presure and cyanosis.

  44. I have had this itchy hand problem for about 6 months on and off. When it first started I had it on my feet also and it would spread from hands to lips but now it is only in my hands. Very intense itching that creates a very strong pain. What can I do if I don’t take medications? I don’t want to take Benedryl or Claritin, any ideas?

  45. Ok-These symptoms are an allergic reaction. A few years back it started to happen to me. The palms and bottom of my feet began to itch unbearably! Then I would start to get little red spots on the inside of my wrists and the bottom of my feet. Then the spots spread to the armpits and trunk of the body. Like most of you I couldn’t understand what was going on. After 8months of doctor’s visits, blood tests and biopsy-it turned out I was allergic to Aleve (and anything in the aspirin family). I had been taking Aleve for years after a car accident-so I never suspected it to be the cause. My body had just decided no more! For those of you who are saying you haven’t done anything different, that may be the problem! Try to start eliminated things that you do in your everyday life one by one until you can figure it out.

  46. My husband and I have been moving into a house in humid south Texas. Most of our household goods were in storage for about 2 years in Austin. After about 2 1/2 days of moving, all of a sudden I had EXACTLY the same symptoms as the person in the Oct. 23, 2006 entry. I also took Claritin D. I’m wondering if it was a reaction to: the dust, heat, physical exertion, chlorine in the swimming pool, one piece of pizza (supreme)????? FREAKY that my symptoms were identical!

  47. I’M PART OF THIS CROWD. ON AND OFF FOR ABOUT 6 MOS. HARD TO HANDLE WHEN IT HITS. HIT LAST NIGHT AND WAS BAD. THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO GO INSANE. FEET THE WORST. FILLED THE BATHTUB UP ABOUT 10 INCHES WITH WATER AS HOT AS I COULD HANDLE. IMMEDIATE RELIEF WHILE IN THE WATER. SOAKED FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES AND THE RELIEF REMAINED SO THAT I COULD GET TO SLEEP.
STARTED AGAIN THIS MORNING, REPEATED THE PROCEDURE BUT ADDED A LITTLE BLEACH. TWO HOURS, SO FAR SO GOOD.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US.

  48. December 2006 I started noticing I would get these red circles and spots all over my palms and hands. The dermatologist thought it was stress-related. During my pregnancy I stopped taking Zyrtec, which I had been on for over 10 years, and only took it as needed (maybe 1X month). I noticed that every time I took a Zyrtec the spots came back. Today, I still only take it as needed and those spots show up every time.
