I’ve been hearing about this group. They’ve been performing at Freddy’s in Prospect Heights for a while. There was a piece about them in the New York Times. This Thrusday July 27 at 7 p.m. they’ll be at Park Slope’s Barbes. Here’s their blurb:
OPERA ON TAP. Opera is fun. Most people don’t seem to realize how much fun it really is. In order to prove it, Opera on Tap has taken its act to barrooms where they found out that beer on tap enhances the operatic experience. The company is made up of young singers and instrumentalists who relish the direct contact with audiences not inhibited in their reactions by the looming menace of giant chandeliers.
If you want to try Opera on the cheap in a relaxed setting
check out Brooklyn Repertory Opera at http://www.bropera.org. They are at the old bath house on the corner of President and 4th avenue. I went after some of them did a number at Freddy’s last time. It was something
called A.F.R.A.I.D. about the stuff that happened in the
Five Points area of NYC in the 1850’s. If you saw “Gangs of New York” that action was all in Five Points. The show was
very good and I was even allowed to take my beer to my seat for the second act.
Drat! I’m already committed to the bat watching cruise in Prospect Park. Too much good stuff. I thought I saw an opera performance offered at one of the restaurants on 7th recently. Maybe the Santa Fe Grill?
