SPECIAL CITATION: Thelonious Monk was awarded a posthumou Special Citation for a body of distinguished and innovative musical compostition that has had a significant and enduring impact on the evolution of jazz. It’s about time. I briefly worked on a documentary about his life called "Straight No Chaser" directed by Christian Blackwood and Charlotte Zwerin. Blackwood one of Monk’s tours to Europe in the 1960’s. I attended Monk’s funeral at St. Peter’s Church, an incredible jazz memorial to a great jazz man.
